The event held at the University of Haifa’s Faculty of Law center on the 26.5.2021 about the launch of a new book, “Intellectual Property, Innovation, and Global Inequality,” by Prof. Daniel Benoliel and collaborations involving the Oxford IP Research Centre.
The event brought together prominent keynote speakers, including Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz and WIPO’s Francis Gurry, to discuss the relationship between intellectual property and inequality both within and among countries. Sessions examined how IP law and policy impact access to innovation, defend or concentrate market power, affect income and opportunities, and influence global development, especially in areas like pharmaceuticals and technology. The event investigated theoretical and practical questions, such as whether IP systems can help redress inequality, the challenges facing developing countries, and potential remedies offered by information policy and international frameworks.
