Online Dispute Resolution

The promise of online dispute resolution, a field that combines law and technology, is to resolve a billing error or a blocked social media account without entering a courtroom simply by using the defendant’s and plaintiff’s electronic devices.
ODR provides faster, more accessible, and cost-effective ways to handle conflicts that arise in the digital world.

At our Center, Prof. Orna Rabinovich-Einy, a leading scholar in this area, is an active fellow at the Haifa Forum of Law and Society and the National Center for Information Technology and Dispute Resolution at UMass, Amherst.

She co-authored the book “Digital Justice: Technology and the Internet of Disputes,” which shows how ODR can transform access to justice by removing barriers of distance, language, and complex procedure across areas such as commerce, healthcare, and social media.

In her article “Access to Digital Justice: Fair and Efficient Processes for the Modern Age,” she analyzes how digital tools can both expand and limit access to justice.

In “Lessons from Online Dispute Resolution for Dispute Systems Design,” she develops key principles for designing fair and effective systems that integrate ODR into broader legal frameworks.

Her works show how ODR can be a helpful solution in the rapidly changing, technological world.
